The surprise of living in Buckeye, AZ is all the surprises that the city has to offer.  Not only is it the spring training home of the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals but it is also home to or near 7 golf courses.  Buckeye is also home to 2 minor league baseball teams - the Grand Canyon Rafters  and the Scorpions.

Flanked by one of Arizona's largest mountain preserves and situated in the Saguaro-dotted Sonoran desert on the northwestern edge of the thriving Valley of the Sun, it's no "surprise" that Buckeye was named Arizona's fastest growing city four times in recent years. Buckeye is about five miles northwest of Del Webb's original Sun City development and adjacent to Sun City West.

The town of Buckeye was founded in 1929 and incorporated in 1960. The name "Buckeye" came from Buckeye, Nebraska, the hometown of the city's founder, Homer C. Ludden. Mr. Ludden's small farming village has grown and now encompasses more than 68 square miles, including urban and commercial developments, ranches and industrial parks. The once irrigated farmlands and orchards are now affordable real estate for people and industry who wish to live and operate in a progressive city.

The Cactus League Spring Training facility and stadium, along with a regional library, aquatic center, recreation center, and 57-acre passive park are the centerpieces of new square-mile-plus downtown development, putting Buckeye well on it's way to becoming the playground of the West Valley.

Buckeye's recreation campus houses the Buckeye Tennis and Racquet Complex (STRC). Since its opening in  2007, the complex has received numerous awards. Most recently, it was named the 2008 Outstanding Facility of the year award by the USTA. The complex hosts various professional events throughout the year, including the Outback Champion Series tour, a USTA Pro Circuit event, and many USTA regional and sectional events. In 2009 the complex was chosen as the site for the Fed Cup QuarterFinal between the USA and Argentina.

But Buckeye hasn't forgotten the outdoors.  Lake Pleasant and White Tank Regional Park are excellent places to spend a quiet afternoon, early morning or sunset.

Thirty-two of the state's top 50 homebuilders cater to new homebuyers, who are attracted to our modestly-priced homes, to our relative proximity to Buckeye, and to our low property taxes.
