Living in Goodyear

Goodyear is one of the best-kept secrets in Arizona. With an exceptional climate, natural recreational riches and a relaxed, rural lifestyle, we are one of America's best small towns. We enjoy the benefits of great air quality with small-town living (approximately 24,000) yet we are within an easy commute to Buckeye. Gateway Airport is only 10 minutes away and Buckeye Sky Harbor Airport is only 30 minutes away.

Goodyear's name originated over a hundred miles away. At the base of the Silver Queen Mine was a creek known as the Picket Post Creek. When the mine opened, the name of the creek was changed to Goodyear. That creek runs down the mountains, past the mine, through Goodyear Canyon and into the area surrounding the present day town of Goodyear.

If you enjoy the outdoors, you'll love Goodyear. You can ride a horse or hike into the mountains or into the countryside. Our parks offer ball fields; and tennis, basketball and volleyball courts. We also have four 18-hole golf courses.

If a more relaxing time is your idea of fun, you can sit and view the San Tan and Goldmine Mountains to the south and the Superstition Mountains to the northeast. Or enrich your quality of life at The Goodyear Performing Arts Center which offers professional theatre, educational outreach, and children’s theatre programs designed to nurture and develop emerging talent.

We regularly survey our residents regarding their opinions on topics such as quality of life, service delivery, civic participation and unique issues of local interest. We hate to boast but a recent survey indicated that our residents are happy with our quality of life, highly satisfied with the quality of our new development, and feel that they are safe from crime.

The Goodyear Business Community

With access to rail and air transportation as well as having large tracts of affordable land, Goodyear has caught the attention of industry. Both TRW and Arch Chemicals are located nearby. The private sector makes up 99.32% of companies in Goodyear. Local government comprises 0.37% and federal government 0.19%. The top industry jobs in Goodyear include trade, transportation, and utilities; professional and business services; and education and health services.

Educating our children is top priority.  Goodyear School District (QCSD) consists of four elementary schools, one middle school, one junior high school, and one high school. Our students continue to exceed state and national averages on our achievement test scores. All four of our elementary schools, as well as our junior high school carry the State’s highest rating. Our middle school and high school have earned “Highly Performing” labels.

Goodyear Shopping

Goodyear offers a variety of shopping options including retail and dining options at Goodyear Marketplace, the Cornerstone at Queen Creek, Power Marketplace and Goodyear Village. One of Arizona's largest shopping malls, Superstition Springs Center, is just 15 minutes to the north.

Goodyear also has Arizona’s only working olive farm & mill. Queen Creek Olive Mill produces an excellent handcrafted extra virgin olive oil using 9 varieties of olives. Stroll the olive grove, tour the mill or visit the gourmet marketplace where you will find a treasure of local foods, unique gifts and farm-casual dining.

One of my favorites is  Paradise Bakery and Cafe with fresh made deli sandwiches, delicious soups and don't forget the cookies.
