Living in Glendale

Love to hike or bike? Then you’ll love Glendale. The city offers approximately 40 miles of hiking trails. Cyclists looking for bike trails will find more than 100 miles of bike routes in Glendale. The city also hosts an annual event called the Glendale Family Bike Ride, meant to encourage families to ride their bikes.

If gardening is your forte, Xeriscape Botanical Garden is an award-winning garden containing approximately 1,000 trees, shrubs, cactus and more. Many are low-water use and excellent for Arizona gardens.

The Wildlife World Zoo & Aquarium is Arizona's largest collection of exotic animals, including white tigers, white alligators and much more. The aquarium has 180,000 gallons of fresh 7 salt water in 80 exciting exhibits.

Annual events include the Jazz and Blues Festival, now in its 27th year.  Just before Valentine’s Day, chocolate purveyors from Arizona and around the nation gather in Glendale for the annual Chocolate Affaire, which celebrates not only chocolate, but romance and the arts as well. Chocolate confections include everything from chocolate truffles; sweet potato fries with chocolate and brown sugar glaze; tropical hot chocolate; deep-fried chocolate bars and organic dark chocolate. Arizona’s famous candy maker Cerreta’s sponsors the Chocolate Affaire. The candy factory offers tours so visitors can get a behind-the-scenes look at how the chocolatiers create everyone’s favorite candy. 

Glendale’s largest and most attractive waterfront and lake community is Arrowhead Ranch, a rare combination of waterfront and mountains unlike any lake community in the valley. The family friendly Rovey Farm community is close to all the sports facilities that Glendale has to offer,

We are serious about attracting and keeping quality employers.   Private Activity Bonds are issued through the Glendale Industrial Development Authority. Proceeds can be used for the construction of industrial / manufacturing facilities and the purchase of equipment.  A wide assortment of business growth and assistance programs are available also.

Glendale is home to a variety of educational opportunities.  We have 16 elementary schools; 15 middle schools; 12 high schools; 19 charter schools and 26 private schools. 

The Glendale Community College is home to over 42000 students and offers a wide range of courses. 

Glendale Shopping

USA Today & Sunset Magazine named Historic Downtown Glendale one of the country’s ten best places for shopping. Shoppers will find a medley of imports, jewelry, art, crafts, collectables, and bath / body accessories. Historic Downtown Glendale is actually three neighborhoods spanning 10 square blocks - Historic Catlin Court with its white picket fences, mature shade trees and bungalows turned into specialty shops; Old Towne boasting brick-trimmed sidewalks, glowing gaslights and famous antique stores. The newest addition is the Promenade at Palmaire, located in the center of Downtown. The Promenade features the Glendale Visitor Center, free covered parking and a growing lineup of shops and eateries.

In addition to Historic Downtown, shoppers can also delight at one of the largest malls in the region - the beautifully designed Arrowhead Towne Center. The mall features water fountains, a movie theater and more than 170 shops and restaurants. The Arrowhead Entertainment District is home to an enviable collection of rave restaurants and must-see shops. After shopping, enjoy buzzing nightlife, wine bars and restaurants at Westgate City Center. Glendale’s Northern Shopping Corridor offers boutique clothing shops, wine shops and nightclubs.
